On the southwest edge of Lake Pontchartrain, the settlement of Frenier grew from a few farming families in the late 1800's to over 300 residents.  The hurricane of 1915 destroyed the town and it was soon abandoned by the few survivors.
Today, the area, incorporated by the city of LaPlace in St. John the Baptist Parish, is home to 75 full-time and 12 part-time residents.  It is best known as the location of the public boat launch.
